Oh, Heroes. Why did you have to pull a Lost and get so terrible after showing such potential?
Heroes is an American sci-fi drama that follows the lives of what feels like 100 characters after they discover that they have superhuman abilities. Premiering in 2006, the show ended in 2010 after airing only four seasons.
At its peak, Heroes had roughly 17 million viewers; however, that tapered down to around four to six million in the last season. I guess I’m not the only one that lost interest.
The following is a brief list of only a few of the main, recurring characters (not including their family, friends, nemeses, etc.).
- Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) – a congressional candidate who can fly
- Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) – a nurse who can mimic others’ superhuman abilities
- Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) – a high-school cheerleader who can self-heal
- Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) – a Japanese adventure-seeker who can travel across time and space
- Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) – a police officer who can read thoughts
- Niki Sanders (Ali Larter) – a woman with extreme strength and multiple personalities
- Mohinder Suresh – an Indian scientist working to find a “cure” for all superpowers
Admittedly, I stopped watching the show halfway through season three on account of extreme boredom. It started feeling more like a chore to get through the episodes, rather than enjoyable entertainment.
From what I’ve heard, the show continues to go downhill from where I left off. It moves at a much slower pace, with not a whole lot of engaging story line and a severe lack of focus in comparison to the earlier seasons.
It was also getting really depressing to watch. The characters were all so exciting and full of wonder at the beginning of the show, but act like huge Debbie Downers near the end of it. Granted, that’s completely understandable considering the traumatic events that they all go through, BUT IT’S TELEVISION. You can make them a little happier.
Seasons 1 & 2 – 7.5/10
Seasons 2.5 and probably onwards: 3/10 – it got very Lost-esque. Time travel is a beach to explain.
Another brilliant post/blog Ashley! I must admit 3(three) things right away! I never watched Lost! and I only watched Season One of Heroes! Now according to your blog I made the right decision in hindsight. Lastly I only watched Heroes for Hayden Panettiere. She’s a cutie, and ran around for the entire season in her cheerleading attire. Every (straight) Guys Fantasy?
Okay the first season had me. But I just didn’t care after the final episode. Veronica Mars “Lost” my attention as well after season one. (see what I did there) Zeroes had great potential like you said but it “Lost” its steam. I just didn’t care anymore and perhaps neither did the writers.
